Govardhana
puja

Lord Krishna’s pastime of lifting Govardhana Hill. When the residents of Vrindavana worshipped Govardhana Hill instead of Indra, Lord Indra became angry and sent torrential rains. To protect the residents, Lord Krishna lifted Govardhana Hill on the little finger of His left hand and held it like an umbrella for seven days.
Devotees celebrate this pastime by worshipping Govardhana Hill, offering Annakuṭa a mountain-like offering of varieties of delicious vegetarian preparations to Lord Krishna, and glorifying His wonderful activities. Govardhana Puja reminds us to take shelter of Krishna with faith and devotion and to recognize His protection and mercy.
